Fall Field Trip

In partnership with The Chicago Park District, our fall field trip Saturday, October, 11th from noon-3 PM will be a departure from our traditional style.  Instead of a caravan of cars driving from stop to stop, this field day will be held at Burnham Park, Chicago on the beautiful Lake Michigan lakeshore.  Many educational and entertaining stations will be set up near the Northerly Island Visitor’s Center, including coastal geology, rocks/minerals/fossils, invasive species (INHS/AIS), archaeology (ISAS), park/Chicago history, kayaking, archery, seed collecting, mud painting for the kids, and more.  Walk to all stations or choose your favorites.

Parking (for a fee) is located next to the Northerly Island Visitor’s Center (1521 South Linn White Drive, Chicago, IL 60605).

No need to register for the trip, as the event is free of charge.  Please join us!  This trip is funded, in part, by an Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Coastal Management Grant with funds from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Do you know a teacher?  We will again offer continuing professional development units or CPDU’s. Please contact lisander@illinois.edu for further information on how to receive 3 CPDU’s and where to meet the day of the event.  Educational materials will be available for teachers to take home.
