Spring Field Trip
The ISGS is busy preparing for a Spring 2014 public geologic field trip, scheduled for Saturday, May 31, 2014. The trip will take place in the Galena area in Jo Daviess County, IL. Pre-registration is required and will be available online in mid March. Just as last year, the fee is $25 for adults and children 12 years and under are free. The trip will be limited to the first 150 people to register. The field trip travels from stop to stop using a caravan of participant vehicles. Carpooling, where possible, is encouraged and appreciated. Please note, we do NOT start and end the trip at the same point. Participants are asked to bring sunscreen, bug spray, eye protection if using rock hammer during rock collecting, sack lunch, and drinks of their own.
Please plan to arrive at the meeting point at 8:15 AM. We will assist you as you park in caravan formation. The meeting point for this trip will be at the Apple River Canyon State Park, Concessions picnic shelter near Stockton, IL (map coming soon).
This is a new field trip and we are excited to offer this to you! The trip will include information from experts in geology, local history, biology, and archeology. There will be one at least one stop where participants will be able to collect fossils. We are finalizing the stops and as soon as we do, more detailed information will be posted here. If you have questions, please contact Lisa Anderson (email@example.com), ISGS Geoscience Outreach Coordinator. Thank you for your continued interest in the public field trips. Hope you can join us!
