Abandoned Mine Maps Completed for Five Counties
Mapping of abandoned mines has been completed for ten 7.5-minute quadrangles in Perry, Clinton, Bureau, Peoria, and Menard Counties. The maps are accompanied by directories containing details about the mine histories and sources of information. Maps and directories have been delivered in both paper and digital formats to the Illinois Mine Subsidence Insurance Fund (IMSIF), the project sponsor, and are released to the public at this time. The newly completed quadrangles are Du Quoin, Pinckneyville, Breese, Beckemeyer, St. Rose, Spring Valley, Ladd, Depue, Dunlap, and Greenview Quadrangles. These maps and directories will help government planners, developers, and private citizens identify undermined areas.
