Lower Cherterian series formation in the fluorspar district in southern Illinois
Ultramafic Igneous Rocks and Fluorite Study
Professors Tamer Rizaoglu and Yusuf Uras, from Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam University, Turkey, spent two months this summer with Illinois State Geological Survey geologists looking at ultramafic igneous rocks and fluorite in southern Illinois. The ISGS geologists, the two professors, and Liliana Lefticariu (Southern Illinois University) began a research project to determine the stable isotope composition of host rocks and ore stage calcite within the fluorspar district in southern Illinois.
