Hackley Receives Best Paper Award
Keith Hackley was presented with the Coal Geology Division Best Paper Award at the 2011 GSA meeting for his paper entitled, "Monitoring Injection Gas with Isotope Analyses at a CO2 Sequestration Pilot Study in a Coal Seam in Illinois" presented at the 2010 GSA Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado. Co-authors included: Abbas Iranmanesh, Bracken Wimmer, Shari Fanta, and David G. Morse. (Contact: Keith Hackley)
Lake County Board Meeting
Steve Brown and Mike Barnhardt updated the Lake County Board at its regular monthly board meeting on geologic mapping in Lake County on Dec. 13. Steve and Mike also met with some members of the county board, Lake County officials, and their consultant to discuss the geology as it pertains to water supply planning needs. The ISGS is mapping the three-dimensional glacial geology in Lake County. The project has been funded by the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program, Lake County, and ISGS. Wabash-Ohio River Coordinating Council Oil Well Task Force
Drew Phillips provided information on locations of oil wells and related structures along the lower Wabash River to the Wabash-Ohio River Coordinating Council Oil Well Task Force on Dec. 2. Several of these features are now located within the Wabash River channel because of channel migration and pose a serious navigation hazard. The charge of the task force is to develop a mitigation plan. (Contact: Drew Phillips)
