His research areas include the adsorption/desorption of pollutants in soils, fate and transport of pesticides in soils and subsurface aquifers, chemical characterization of organic pollutants in soils, sediments, and groundwater, coal combustion by-product (fly ash) utilization, and CO₂ sequestration with emphasis on gas and inorganic monitoring. He is a member of the American Chemical Society of Agronomy. Joe has been working at the ISGS since 1977.
