Lisa Smith, B.S.Geospatial Analysis and ModelingGeologic Mapping and Hydrogeology Center
Phone: 217-244-2503 ResponsibilitiesI use Geographic Information System technology to view Illinois' geology from space to deep within the earth's surface. I assist private citizens, industry, and other government agencies when they request assistance and I support the ISGS mapping program when necessary. I'm available to ISGS staff to assist with any GIS questions or problems as might arise. My door is open and if I can't help directly I'll find the answer or someone who knows it. I work on projects pertaining to watersheds in Illinois - the Illinois River Basin has been the focus for the last two to three years and it's looking like this work will continue for three to four more. The focus of this effort is to assess the "health" of the IL River Basin through the assessment of geomorphic indicators. We (Phillips, Pociask) have been working to establish just what those indicators might be and have recently submitted a final report to the Corp of Engineers with our findings. IDNR is focusing on several tributaries to the Illinois and I will be developing a data atlas for each of them (the final stream list is not here yet). Each atlas will contain all available information for specific reaches and will be used as a ground tool - eventually to be made available to the public. I'm working with other IDNR staff to complete the Critical Trends Assessment Project reports and executive summary publications. I'm working with the Middle IL River Valley Mapping project (Berg, McKay, Stumpf, Keefer) - my task is to bring all the mapped and interpreted data to life, ready to submit for review and, eventually, clean up and archive the databases. I'm the keeper of the noncoal mineral industry data and work with Mineral Industry staff when they need GIS help or to work on the Mineral Industry Directory publications. I'm the keeper of the Illinois Oil and Gas Pipeline data - when the heat is off from the Federal Gov't ISGS will publish this information. GIS database development and updating the Survey's legacy data are high on my list for this year. I'll be finishing up the Tazewell County database archives and working with GAMS staff to update. (These are not small tasks.) I'm Secretary of IMAC and I compile the GAMS monthly report. I'm here to help —my door is open.
