Major Responsibilities: 

Curt is the field manager of the Monitoring, Verification, and Accounting (MVA) Program supporting the deep saline geological storage of CO2 at the Illinois Basin Decatur Project (IBDP) and the upcoming Illinois Carbon Capture and Storage (ICCS) Project.  The MVA Program involves extensive environmental monitoring of the near surface and shallow subsurface using near-infrared color aerial imagery acquisition, continuous GPS, net CO2 flux monitoring, soil CO2 flux monitoring, soil gas sampling, shallow groundwater sampling, and tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS).

Research Interests: 

Depositional environments in the lower Pennsylvanian.  Implementation of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques on mature petroleum fields.  Factors impacting the variability of soil CO2 flux.
