Geologic Facts and Curiosities

Thoughout the years, scientists at the Survey have been asked questions by students, teachers, and the general public, on topics concerning our state's geology. Most of the questions were asked just once but some, like "Is there gold in Illinois?", (yes, but in small amounts), have been asked many times. The information requested was often very specific and only of interest to the person asking the question but some of the answers contained information of a more general interest. Those we have updated and archived here.
