Animated Flight up the Illinois River Valley

Snapshot of the Illinois River Flight

This movie is a simulated flight over the Illinois River valley, starting with a view of the confluence of the Mississippi and Illinois rivers and ending with a view of the Chicagoland area.

Some notable landforms visible in the flight are the sand and gravel terraces along the Illinois River, end moraines of the most recent glaciation (the Wisconsin Glacial Episode), the Big Bend of the Illinois River, flat glacial lake plains, and the Chicago Outlet. There is a vertical exaggeration of 25 times the normal relief to emphasize the landscape.
