Abstract
As a consequence of the Illinois Height Modernization Program, the Illinois State Geological Survey is receiving and distributing LiDAR elevation data for an increasing number of counties. Their much improved vertical and horizontal resolution as compared to existing statewide digital elevation model data are revealing new geological features at a landscape scale previously unavailable to Survey scientists. This presentation will feature several LiDAR examples and demonstrate how such data may improve our understanding of geological processes at work in Illinois.
