In April 2004 edition 1.1 of the data set was transitioned to storage in an Oracle RDBMS using the ArcSDE geodatabase model. The result (this version) is designated Edition 20040422.
Edition 1.0 of these data were reviewed for internal logical consistency in June, 1998. As a result, COVER-ID values were recalculated to be unique, and five polygons were deleted. See logical consistency report and process steps for June, 1998 for more details. The updated data set was designated edition 1.1.

This is a Vector data set. It contains the following vector data types (SDTS terminology):
Horizontal positions are specified in geographic coordinates, that is, latitude and longitude. Latitudes are given to the nearest 0.000001. Longitudes are given to the nearest 0.000001. Latitude and longitude values are specified in Decimal degrees.
The horizontal datum used is North American Datum of 1983.
The ellipsoid used is Geodetic Reference System 80.
The semi-major axis of the ellipsoid used is 6378137.000000.
The flattening of the ellipsoid used is 1/298.257222.

A list of these names follows: Arcola, Arlington, Arspie, Atkinson, Barlina, Blodgett, Bloomington (undiff), Buda, Cary, Cerro Gordo, Champaign, Chatsworth, Clarendon, Cullom, Deerfield, Dover, El Paso, Elburn Complex, Ellis, Eureka, Farm Ridge, Fletchers, Fox Lake, Gifford, Gilberts, Gilman, Heyworth, Highland Park, Hildreth, Huntley, Iroquois, Kenneyville, Kings Mill, La Moille, La Mollie, LeRoy, Manhattan, Marengo, Mendota, Metamora, Minonk, Minooka, Mount Palatine, Nevins, Newton, Normal, Norway, Palatine, Paris, Park Ridge, Paw Paw, Paxton, Pesotum, Providence, Ransom, Rantoul, Ridge Farm, Rockdale, Roselle, Saint Anne, Saint Charles, Shabbona, Shaws, Sheffield, Shelbyville (undiff), Shirley, Strawn, Theiss, Tinley, Tuprin, Urbana, Valparaiso (undiff), Van Orion, Varna, Washington, West Chicago, West Ridge, Westfield, Westmont, Wheaton, Wilton Center, Zion City
SYMBOL - indicates if polygon is a moraine 55 - polygon is a moraine 999 - polygon is not a moraine
Coverage created as part of the geologic GIS database at the ISGS to provide automated end moraine information.
The data are not appropriate as a geodetic, legal or engineering base. The data set was not and is not intended as a substitute for surveyed locations, such as can be determined by a registered Public Land Surveyor. Although useful in a GIS as a reference base layer for maps, the data set has no legal basis in the definition of boundaries or property lines.
H.B. Willman and John C. Frye, 1970, Pleistocene Stratigraphy of Illinois: ISGS Bulletin 94, Illinois State Geological Survey, Urbana, Illinois.
Some changes were made, as follows:
Deleted five polygons as per Ardith Hansel. They were named Harrisville (2 polys), Temperance Hill (1 poly), Atkinson (2 polys). There is a third Atkinson polygon that was not removed. The two removed were the westernmost pair. These polygons can be identified on the published paper map as the five that lay on the dashed line labeled "Boundary of Woodfordian glaciation", in the northwestern area of the map. New information indicates that these features should not be considered as Woodfordian moraines.
A polygon was mis-labeled "La Mollie". The correct name is "La Moille". The correction was made.
Cover-ids were recalculated to be unique.
The features were imported into the ISGS SDE enterprise database following steps outlined in ISGS procedure GISDB_0009.

Attributes of the source coverage were reviewed in October, 1991. Some changes and updates were made in June, 1998. See processing steps for details. There are no known polygon attribute values outside the appropriate value domains.
Horizontal positional accuracy was verified in October, 1991 by manual overlay of source and hard-copy plots. Lines within one line-width of the source were deemed acceptable. Accuracy of the source with respect to the ground condition was not addressed in this review. Consult the primary source for such information.
Recent studies have shown that additional end moraines may be found on the land surface of Illinois. However, these have not been added to this feature class. The ISGS publication "Wedron and Mason Groups: Lithostratigraphic Reclassification...", Bulletin 104, Hansel and Johnson (1996) is a good source for information on subsequent developments in this regard.
Polygon and chain-node topology was present in the source coverage. This data set was checked for complete chain-node topology (no dangling arcs, except where appropriate), polygon labels (one per polygon, except for universal polygon), boundary values appropriate for map projection and map units, and appropriate "fuzzy" tolerances. The data set meets these parameters.
