This feature dataset was quickly assembled from old Arc/Info coverages to produce a general representation of the state of Illinois and has not been reviewed or quality-controlled in any way and is not supported.
Attributes include NWI and IDNR identifiers and text designation of habitat. The data are in the Geographic Coordinate System, decimal degrees, NAD83. There are 13 habitat designations. Some examples are Bottomland Forest, Emergent Lake, Intermittent Riverine, Open Water Wetlands, and Swamp.
More recent data may be available at the NWI web site (<http://www.fws.gov/nwi/>). Data are available for download at that site by 1:24,000-scale and 1:100,000-scale quadrangle. Original NWI metadata are also available there.

This is a Vector data set.
Horizontal positions are specified in geographic coordinates, that is, latitude and longitude. Latitudes are given to the nearest 0.000001. Longitudes are given to the nearest 0.000001. Latitude and longitude values are specified in Decimal degrees.
The horizontal datum used is North American Datum of 1983.
The ellipsoid used is Geodetic Reference System 80.
The semi-major axis of the ellipsoid used is 6378137.000000.
The flattening of the ellipsoid used is 1/298.257222.
Here is a list of the potential values for NAME:

The data are appropriate for use in local and regional thematic analysis. The data are not appropriate as a geodetic, legal or engineering base. The data set was not and is not intended as a substitute for surveyed locations, such as can be determined by a registered Public Land Surveyor. The data have no legal basis in the definition of boundaries or property lines.
Data were loaded into ArcSDE. Metadata updated.

Attribute information from USFWS.
Digitized from 1:24,000K quad maps transcribed from high-altitude photography at 1:58,000. No further information available.
Wetlands and deepwater habitat identified as of 1980-1987 (depending on location) and based on the definitions of USFWS at the time of database construction. Areas down to .01 acres (ARC generated area) were included; many farmed wetlands were not digitized. Due to the dynamics of wetland systems, boundaries and classifications change over time.
Any additions to the National Wetlands Inventory since 1987 are not included.
Data were are topologically complete at the time data were stored as Arc/Info coverages. No additional information.
