Recent updates to the data:
In March 2004 edition 1.0 of the data set was transitioned to storage in an Oracle RDBMS using the ArcSDE geodatabase model. The result (this version) is designated Edition 20040331.

This is a Vector data set. It contains the following vector data types (SDTS terminology):
Horizontal positions are specified in geographic coordinates, that is, latitude and longitude. Latitudes are given to the nearest 0.000001. Longitudes are given to the nearest 0.000001. Latitude and longitude values are specified in Decimal degrees.
The horizontal datum used is North American Datum of 1983.
The ellipsoid used is Geodetic Reference System 80.
The semi-major axis of the ellipsoid used is 6378137.000000.
The flattening of the ellipsoid used is 1/298.257222.
GNTYPE - General structural type 1 - plunging anticline or anticlinal nose 2 - doubly plunging anticline 3 - asymmetrical anticline 4 - monocline 5 - syncline 6 - anticline (unspecified type)
GEOHORIZON and GEOHORIZON2 indicate the names of the geologic formation on which the feature is mapped. The ISGS Geologic Formation Numbering Code, a unique four digit number, was used to indicate these designations. If no horizon is indicated a code of 9999 is entered, meaning that the feature was mapped at the surface. In some cases there is more than one geologic formation associated with a mapped structural feature; in this case the GEOHORIZON2 field is used to indicate the additional geologic formation code number.

NAME - the name of the structure
NUM - The item NUM is an unique value assigned to each member of a GNTYPE. For example, the Aden Anticline is feature number 1 of the Anticline general type, while Birkbeck Syncline is feature number 1 of the Syncline general type. Thus the combination of GNTYPE and NUMBER can be used to uniquely identify any feature. The relationship of NAME and NUM is shown in the following table.

These data are for use at a scale of 1:500,000 or smaller only. They are appropriate for use in regional thematic analysis, for display purposes, and for mapping environmental phenomena related to them. The data are not appropriate as a geodetic, legal or engineering base. The data set was not and is not intended as a substitute for surveyed locations, such as can be determined by a registered Public Land Surveyor. Although useful in a GIS as a reference base layer for maps, the data set has no legal basis in the definition of boundaries or property lines.

The features were imported into the ISGS SDE enterprise database following steps outlined in ISGS procedure GISDB_0009.
As the word NUMBER is a reserved word in Oracle, the field NUMBER was renamed to NUM.

Person who carried out this activity:
The published (Plate 1) map from ISGS Bulletin 100 was the source for feature attributes. Attribute code assignments were checked by three individuals and are believed to fully representative of the source document.
Horizontal positional accuracy of this data with respect to the source map was verified by three individuals by visual comparison (manual overlay) of source maps and hard-copy plots. Arcs within one line-width of source mylars were deemed acceptable. Consult Bull. 100 and its sources for information on the derivation of structure locations.
This data set contains anticlines, synclines and monoclines shown as line features on Plate 1, ISGS Bull. 100. This feature class must be used in conjunction with the other feature classes in this dataset for a full representation of Plate 1 of ISGS Bulletin 100.
When the dataset was stored as a coverage it was checked for complete chain-node topology (no dangling arcs, except where appropriate), boundary values appropriate for map projection and map units, and appropriate "fuzzy" tolerances. There are no known arc attribute values outside the appropriate value domains.
