Reviews Applied to Data: This coverage underwent quality review according to ISGS QA/QC procedures. Mine locations and attribute data were reviewed by the ISGS Coal Section. Processing steps and ACTIVE item values were reviewed by ISGS GIS personnel.
M-INDEX(n) - Unique ISGS identification number assigned
to each mine. A polygon can represent up to three mines because
of overlapping mines in different seams or surface mining through
shallow underground mines, or due to changing mine ownership and/or
permit status over time.
PIT(n) - Pit number. This is used to distinguish between
different pits mined by a single surface mine or different seams
mined by an underground mine. PITn is associated with M-INDEXn.
TYPE(n) - Polygon code associated with M-INDEXn.
A - Unmined area between mines
B - Indefinite mine boundary (surface mine)
H - Auger mine
K - Unmined area within a mine
L - Underground mine
M - Surface mine
N - Indefinite mine boundary (underground mine)
S - Abandoned surface mine or tipple
W - Abandoned slope
(no value) - other unmined areas
