The vector data include name for geologic unit, map symbol, and a line-type indicator.
Vector data are in the geographic coordinate system, decimal degrees, NAD83.

The data were published in 1999 on an ISGS Illinois Geologic Quadrangle (Illinois Portion) entitled Surficial Geology Map, Grafton 7.5-minute Quadrangle (Illinois Portion), Jersey and Calhoun Counties, Illinois by David Grimley. The data in this compilation do not include all the information on the published map. Refer to the published map for a complete explanation of the Quaternary geology of the Grafton Quadrangle (Illinois Portion).
The nominal scale is 1:24,000.

This data compilation is intended to provide a regional overview of the extent of Quaternary geologic materials in the Grafton Quadrangle (Illinois Portion). The data are appropriate regional thematic analysis. The data are not appropriate as a geodetic or engineering base, nor do they replace the need for detailed site-specific studies.

The GIS data can be used in any GIS software compatible with the ESRI shape file (.shp) or coverage export file (.e00) formats. It is recommended that ArcView 3x or ArcGIS 8x software are used to view and manipulate the data. Most Internet browsers and graphics software are compatible with the TIFF and JPEG image formats. Other digital files in the product are compatible with typical PC desktop software.It is assumed that those who wish to download, unzip and use these data are technically proficient in using the Internet, file zipping software, and GIS software. The ISGS will entertain questions about the data, but will not provide support of any kind in regard to the use of the Internet or any particular software package.
