    Title:
    Drift Thickness of the Villa Grove 7.5-minute Quadrangle, Illinois - ISGS Digital Data Compilation - Basic Version
    Abstract:
    This metadata file describes a compilation of digital data depicting the drift thickness of the 7.5-minute Villa Grove Quadrangle in Illinois. The compilation is in the form of a downloadable zip file including the following information:

    (1) vector spatial data layers in ArcView data format for drift thickness polygons and contours;

    (2) JPEG browse images from the final published map, and

    (3) metadata in FGDC compliant format for all spatial layers.

    The vector data include maximum and minimum thicknesses of drift polygons, contour thickness values and a line-type indicator.

    Vector data are in the geographic coordinate system, decimal degrees, NAD83.

    For a detailed list of the files included in the data product, see the Supplemental_Information section.

    The data were published in 1999 on an ISGS Illinois Geologic Quadrangle entitled Drift Thickness Map, Villa Grove Quadrangle, Douglas County, Illinois by C. Pius Weibel and Curtis C. Abert. The data in this compilation do not include all the information on the published map. Refer to the published map for a complete explanation of the Drift Thickness of the Villa Grove Quadrangle.

    The nominal scale is 1:24,000.

Why was the data set created?

This data compilation is intended to provide a regional overview of the extent of Drift Thickness units in the Villa Grove Quadrangle. The data are appropriate regional thematic analysis. The data are not appropriate as a geodetic or engineering base, nor do they replace the need for detailed site-specific studies.

How was the data set created?

  4. How can I download or order the data?

  5. What hardware or software do I need in order to use the data set?

    The GIS data can be used in any GIS software compatible with the ESRI shape file (.shp) format. Most Internet browsers and graphics software are compatible with the JPEG image format. Other digital files in the product are compatible with typical PC desktop software.

    It is assumed that those who wish to download, unzip and use these data are technically proficient in using the Internet, file zipping software, and GIS software. The ISGS will entertain questions about the data, but will not provide support of any kind in regard to the use of the Internet or any particular software package.
