Identification_Information: Citation: Citation_Information: Originator: USGS Publication_Date: 20021206 Title: Wauconda, IL Geospatial_Data_Presentation_Form: map Publication_Information: Publication_Place: Reston, VA Publisher: U.S. Geological Survey Description: Abstract: This Digital Raster Graphic (DRG) was produced by down sampling, georeferencing, and conversion of a 1000 dots-per-inch (dpi) composite image of revised map separates to a standard, USGS GeoTIFF DRG. This DRG includes collar information and is georeferenced to the UTM grid. Purpose: A DRG is useful as a source or background layer in a GIS, as a means to perform quality assurance on other digital products, and as a source for the collection and revision of vector data. DRG's can also be merged with other digital data, for example, DEM's or DOQ's, to provide additional visual information for the extraction and revision of base cartographic information. Supplemental_Information: The Product ID is 950029. The UTM x,y position of pixel 1,1 is 394668.00, 4693876.69 Time_Period_of_Content: Time_Period_Information: Single_Date/Time: Calendar_Date: 20021206 Currentness_Reference: Ground Condition Status: Progress: Complete Maintenance_and_Update_Frequency: Irregular Spatial_Domain: Bounding_Coordinates: West_Bounding_Coordinate: -88.25 East_Bounding_Coordinate: -88.125 North_Bounding_Coordinate: 42.375 South_Bounding_Coordinate: 42.25 Keywords: Theme: Theme_Keyword_Thesaurus: None Theme_Keyword: digital raster graphic Theme_Keyword: DRG Theme_Keyword: new version DRG Place: Place_Keyword_Thesaurus: U.S. Department of Commerce, 1995, Countries, dependencies, areas of special sovereignty, and their principal administrative divisions (Federal Information Processing Standard 10-4): Washington, D.C., National Institute of Standards and Technology. Data_Quality_Information: Attribute_Accuracy: Attribute_Accuracy_Report: The DRG is an 8-bit color image. Colors in the DRG reflect the visual appearance of the map. Specific RGB values may be used for uniform portrayal of features throughout a particular DRG series. Logical_Consistency_Report: Not applicable Completeness_Report: The DRG is a faithfully reproduced digital image of the revised source. Data completeness for DRG files reflects content of the digitally revised source. Features may have been eliminated or generalized during digital revision due to scale and legibility constraints. For information on collection and inclusion criteria, see Standards for 1:24,000-Scale Digital Line Graphs and Quadrangle Maps, Parts 1-4, 6-7, and 9-10, National Mapping Program Technical Instructions, U.S. Geological Survey, 2001; Standards for 1:24,000-Scale Digital Line Graphs and Quadrangle Maps, Part 5 and Part 8, National Mapping Program Technical Instructions, U.S. Geological Survey, 1996; Standards for Digital Line Graphs, National Mapping Program Technical Instructions, U.S. Geological Survey, 1999; and Standards for Revised Primary Series Quadrangle Maps, National Mapping Program Technical Instructions U.S. Geological Survey, 2001. Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: Although the datum of the source is retained, in order to be consistent with other USGS digital data, this image is cast on the UTM and may therefore be INCONSISTENT with the credit note on the image collar. DRG's meet the accuracy standards of the revised digital source only in the area of the DRG that falls within the neatline of the image, excluding insets. Overedge areas fall outside the transformation boundary area (map neatline). As a result, areas outside the neatline and beyond the control point extent can exhibit anomalies or discrepancies. These anomalies will also appear in the map inset area and in the map collar. The process step describes, in general, the methods used at a typical USGS production site to produce DRG's derived from high resolution, composite raster images of digitally revised map separates. A de-screened, standard color palette, 8-bit, 1000 dpi, PackBits compressed Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) raster image of composite map separates is generated during the final stage of digital map revision. 1. The TIFF is usually re-sampled to create a 500 dpi TIFF file. Pixel resolution is a function of map scale. 2. The TIFF is georeferenced using coordinates of the map graticule ticks. Each tick is visited and assigned its respective coordinates which are stored in a ground control file. Geographic transformation software is then used to produce a georeferenced TIFF. 3. The TIFF image is converted to a GEOTIFF DRG. 4. Prior to archiving, the DRG undergoes the following quality assurance procedures: a. The color index values of each DRG are checked to ensure that the RGB combinations are consistent with the standardized color model 1 palette. b. All DRG files are inspected to ensure that they are geometrically consistent with normal map presentation. c. Each DRG is checked to ensure that data elements in the DRG metadata file correspond to the map collar information and to the information in the associated image file. d. Each DRG is checked for georeferencing accuracy by comparing the book value of latitude and longitude tick marks with corresponding tick intersections in the DRG image. e. GeoTIFF header records in each DRG are checked for completeness and accuracy.
