Land Cover of Illinois 1991-1995

In 1996, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources published Illinois Land Cover: An Atlas (IDNR 1996) and Illinois Land Cover: An Atlas on Compact Disc (IDNR 1996). These data presented a comprehensive inventory of the state's land cover. The inventory was based upon analysis of multi-date Landsat 4 and 5 Thematic Mapper (TM) satellite imagery acquired during the 1991-1995 spring and fall seasons. Inspection of the 1991-1995 TM Coverage Map shows that a majority of the source imagery was acquired during 1992.


The Land Cover of Illinois 1991-1995 was developed as a product of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Critical Trends Assessment Project (CTAP). CTAP is an ongoing program to assess the extent and condition of the state's natural and anthropogenic systems. The Illinois Land Cover: An Atlas on Compact Disc is now out-of-print. However, the CTAP Land Cover of Illinois 1991-1995 metadata is available, as are 1991-1995 Statistics from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
