Industrial Minerals and Resource Economics Section

What We Do

The Industrial Minerals and Resource Economics (IMRE) Section of the Illinois State Geological Survey provides geological, mineralogical, and economic research and service to the public, industry, and government agencies.

Specific responsibilities of personnel in the Section include these:
      • map and characterize the geology of Illinois's nonfuel mineral resources to aid private individuals, industry, and government agencies
      • collect, analyze, archive, and desseminate geologic information to aid in the exploration for mineral resources
      • identify high-quality, low-cost mineral resources that can be preserved and used through wise land-use planning
      • provide economic and policy information for Illinois' geological resources.
