Publishing and Outreach Section
The Publishing, Design, and Photography Section works with scientists at the Illinois State Geological Survey to provide the people of Illinois with up-to-date, complete, and objective geologic information in the most understandable and usable formats. The section generates original material and provides photographic, editing, design, and product production support to the Survey's scientific staff.
Products include printed maps, scientific reports, teacher curricula, popular publications, newsletters, posters, guidebooks, fliers, videotapes, CD-ROMs, Web pages, on-line publications, meeting exhibits, and photographs.
What Is the Value of a Publishing Section?
The Publishing, Design, and Photography Section helps ISGS scientists effectively communicate their findings to a diverse Illinois public in an increasingly visual, fast-paced world where attractive, easy-to-comprehend materials are expected—or rejected.
The section staff members have expertise in
• translating technical data to popular formats
• mastering complex publishing technologies
• recording and communicating the field, laboratory, and office
activities of ISGS scientists
