Quaternary Geology Section

Mission

To investigate and report on the Quaternary geology of Illinois to provide a scientific basis for the protection and beneficial use of Quaternary deposits.

Objective

To collect, study, archive, and make available Quaternary geology information to aid in environmental studies for earth and groundwater protection and locating industrial minerals and groundwater.

Research Activities

      • to characterize and mapping Quaternary deposits
      • to provide a framework for the classification and correlation of Quaternary deposits
      • to study Quaternary climate change and paleoenvironmental studies
      • to study glacial sedimentary process studies
