Lateral meltwater channels cut in crystalline Precambrian bedrock

Location: Aktineq Glacier (B17), Bylot Island, Nunavut, Canada

Shilts image - Lateral meltwater channels cut in crystalline Precambrian bedrock

Major meltwater channels probably formed during the Wisconsin expansion of "native" glaciers of Bylot Island (Klassen, 1993). Note modern lateral outwash deposits and outwash fan from Aktineq Glacier blocking drainage and forming a lake in the lower left corner of the image. The small white dots in the lower right center of the image are tents.
