Sediment-laden basal meltwater emerging from surface of Fountain Glacier (B26)

Location: Bylot Island, Nunavut, Canada
Sediment-laden basal meltwater emerging from surface of Fountain Glacier (B26)

Aerial view of sediment-charged meltwater emerging under artesian pressure from the top of the 200-meter-thick snout area of Fountain Glacier. Only meltwater that has been in contact with the basal debris zone of Bylot Island glaciers has this muddy appearance. The original photo was taken from an altitude of approximately 30 meters above the ice surface.
