Ground view of burned-out mudboils two years after a tundra fire

This is a ground view of burned out mudboils, damaged by tundra fire #5 (Shilts, 1975; Wein, and Shilts, 1976) as described in image 0101. In Wein and Shilts, this is the image from the photo in figure 109.1, taken by Ross Wein. Note that the turf fringes that define the mudboils once stood as 0.5 m to 1.0 m-high ridges of vegetation which enclosed and hid the boulders that are now exposed by the removal of the vegetation by fire. The burned borders of the mudboils now form depressions, along which surface drainage is focused.
