This is a photo of a classic occurrence of rib-and-trough structures in a tundra lake in the Kaminak Lake area, southwestern Nunavut, Canada, west of Hudson Bay between 62 and 63 degrees north latitude. This photo was taken from an altitude of ca. 50 meters. Following is an original discussion of the form, relationship to permafrost, and genesis of these features, aspects of which are also shown in images 0051, 0060, 0063, 0070, 0071, 0121, 0122, 0126, 0127, 0129, 0157, 0196, 0197, 0199, 0200, 0201, 0202, 0204, and 0206. The original reference is "Permafrost features under arctic lakes" (Shilts and Dean, 1975).
